Community Assessment Determining What Matters in Our Region
In January 2003, a panel of local experts released the results of the United Way's first community assessment. This research study, which took 18 months to complete, serves as a strategic planning tool for United Way and guides the organization's process for setting community-wide priorities and distributing dollars through the Community Solutions Fund.
Respondents were asked to evaluate community strengths and weaknesses in six major areas:
Economic and Financial Well-Being
Education
Health
Safety
Environment
Volunteerism, Charity, and Civic Engagement
Results indicated that Eau Claire county excelled in areas such as students' test scores and home affordability. Areas of concern included access to quality child care and voter turnout. The report indicated a need for information and referral services, access to mental health services for children and youth access to dental care.
United Way of Greater Eau Claire recently updated the Community Assessment report.
I would like to thank you for all your generosity. Because you helped the United Way fund the Eau Claire Interfaith Hospitality network, I have been able to acquire a home for my children, and me. I am also continuing my education at the Chippewa Valley Technical College. Without your care and support, I would not be able to enjoy the quality of life my family now has.
